Why Christ Came: to show God's love

Happy Advent!
Advent is upon us with great joy and anticipation of his coming! But I feel the need to urge us toward the powerful man who came. He may have entered the world after 40 weeks in the tiny womb of a young lady named Mary, but he came with the power and strength of God. I need to remember that grown man and the reasons he came this year. I need not anticipate his coming, because has come and dwells in me. He dwells in you. But this is no baby that dwells in us, but rather the full embodiment of God and all he is and desires. I want to embrace him this season. And, just so you know, I will be a bit shorter, as I realize each of us has even more demands upon our time in this season. So, without further ado…
Why did Jesus come?
He came to show us God’s love for us. 1 John 4:10 says ‘This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son’ and John 3:16 from our childhood memorization of verses says that God so loved the world that he sent his only Son.’ This love is no trite thing, as I think anyone who has given up a child would agree. Giving up a child to go off to study or travel, when they leave the nest, it is a great separation. Yet God has done that willingly, sent his son to us. Many permit their children to leave, but how many of us send them off for the benefit of others? God sent his son as a beacon and demonstration of His love for us. In this season we have plenty of opportunities to show that love to others, following in His footsteps.
